Most referrals to other specialists will require you seeing or speaking with a GP. However, there are a number of local services, listed below, that you are able to make self referrals to.

Rochdale Sexual Health Service (including Family Planning)
We provide free and confidential sexual health services in Rochdale. This includes information and advice on all types of contraception, STI testing and treatment. Our service is confidential, non-judgemental and for people of all ages, genders and orientations. Everyone is welcome and you don’t need to see a GP first. You can attend one of our walk-in clinics, book an appointment online or phone us.

MECS – Minor Eye Conditions Service
The Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) provides assessment and treatment for people with recently occurring minor eye conditions. The service is provided by MECS accredited optometrists. Who is the service for? It is for people of all ages registered with a HMR GP – adults and children. Children under 16 years must be accompanied at their appointment by an adult.
Thinking Ahead help everyday issues that affect your mental wellbeing and provide professional support for more common mental health difficulties, such as anxiety and depression. The Big Life Group is one of our partner organisations, and we provide the following as part of the Thinking Ahead service: Cognitive-behavioural therapy Eye movement desensitisation reprogramming (EMDR) for post-traumatic stress disorder Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy.
We provide a comprehensive foot health service that includes the diagnosis, management and treatment of lower limb and foot dysfunction and their associated pathologies. Patients meeting the access criteria will be routed to the appropriate podiatry team member for assessment.

Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service
Physical, financial and emotional support to help you live life as fully as you can. The Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service supports patients living in Oldham, Bury, Heywood, Middleton, and Rochdale. The service aims to provide a valuable resource to the community, offering a wide range of services to support people affected by cancer. We are based at the Royal Oldham Hospital, but we also provide support at Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield Hospital when required.
Direct to Midwife
The Direct to Midwife campaign is being rolled out across Rochdale borough, led by local midwives from Rochdale Infirmary. Pregnant women are being encouraged to contact their local community midwife as soon as they know they are pregnant. The campaign aims to encourage mums-to-be to contact their midwife as a first point of contact to access advice and antenatal care more quickly to help ensure a healthy pregnancy.
Rochdale Carers Hub (Support for Carers)
The Carers Hub exists to ensure all carers have access to information, advice and a wide range of support services. These support services are designed to help carers continue in their caring role for as long as they choose and to reduce the impact the caring role can have on their own health and wellbeing.

It allows patients to access Physiotherapy services quickly and easily without having to see a GP first.
